El Salvador
Our Salvadoran breakfast plate featured two kinds of pupusa, one filled with beans and cheese and the other with cheese alone. They were served with chicharrón, fried pork belly with a satisfying bite; curtido, pickled cabbage; savory tomato-based salsa roja; and scrambled eggs with peppers and onions. We also offered Salvadoran sides, desserts and drinks, including crisp yuca fries made from cassava, quesadilla, a rice-flour cheese cake, and specialty Geisha coffee grown in El Salvador.
El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America. Facing the Pacific Ocean and home to more than twenty volcanoes, it is also known as the land of volcanoes. Fertile volcanic soil supports crops such as corn and coffee, providing the foundation for the country’s distinctive food culture.
