France
The French word for breakfast, petit déjeuner, literally means little lunch. It usually combines tartines, sliced bread such as baguette spread with butter, jam or other toppings, or viennoiseries, rich pastries made with eggs and butter, with coffee or café au lait. Our French breakfast featured a tartine with butter and strawberry jam, a croissant, jambon de Bayonne, Camembert, fromage blanc sprinkled with cassonade brown sugar, and fruit salad.
We also offered French favorites perfect for colder weather, including chestnut and pumpkin potage, café crème, chocolat chaud, vin chaud mulled wine, and fondant au chocolat.
The largest country in Western Europe, France is known as Europe's breadbasket thanks to its thriving agriculture as well as its industry. It is also celebrated for art and fine food, with French cuisine counted among the world's three great culinary traditions.
