Greece

Two pies made with paper-thin filo pastry take center stage on our Greek breakfast plate: tiropita, filled with feta, and spanakopita, filled with spinach. They are served with a classic horiatiki salad, scrambled eggs topped with feta and dried oregano, and strained yogurt with Greek thyme honey, walnuts and cinnamon. We also offered fried cod, cheese saganaki, traditional desserts such as kataifi and loukoumades, Greek frappé iced coffee with milk, and Greek wines.

Greece, at the southern edge of Europe and surrounded by the Mediterranean, is a land of blue skies and blue seas. Ancient Greek civilization flourished some 5,000 years ago as Europe’s oldest civilization, laying foundations in philosophy, mathematics, music, medicine and art that still influence us today. With seas on three sides and more than 6,000 islands, Greece is a maritime country, yet mountains cover around 80% of its land. These geographical contrasts are reflected in its food culture.
