Sweden
Our Swedish breakfast plate combined räkmacka, an open sandwich piled with shrimp; knäckebröd crispbread with a boiled egg and cod roe paste; pyttipanna, a home-style dish of fried potatoes and other vegetables; and gröt, oat porridge served with milk and lingonberry jam. We also offered Swedish sides, desserts and drinks, including the much-loved meatballs, crayfish associated with summer, and popular sweets such as semla and prinsesstårta.
Located on the Scandinavian Peninsula, Sweden is a Nordic country that leads the world in areas ranging from democracy and social welfare to women's participation in society and environmental issues. It is also home to global brands such as IKEA, H&M and Volvo. Though often thought of as a cold country, the Gulf Stream gives it a relatively mild climate and four distinct seasons. Potatoes and green vegetables in spring and summer, berries and mushrooms in autumn, and root vegetables such as beets in winter bring the changing seasons to the table. Enjoying seasonal produce is a deeply rooted part of Swedish food culture.
