Tahiti
Tahitians tend to go to bed early and rise early, and breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The centerpiece of the morning table is poisson cru, a traditional dish of fresh tuna and vegetables dressed with lemon and coconut milk. With coconut palms growing all over the islands, fresh coconut milk is always at hand. Poisson cru is usually eaten with a baguette. Another Sunday-morning favorite is pua roti, a Chinese-style roast pork: Chinese food is popular in everyday Tahitian life. We completed the plate with po'e, an oven-baked fruit dish, and also offered a range of Tahitian coconut-based drinks and desserts.
French Polynesia lies in the South Pacific. Surrounded by cobalt-blue seas, Tahiti and its neighboring islands offer unspoiled nature and a simple island way of life worthy of the word paradise. French rule began in the late nineteenth century, bringing French and island cultures together. This blend has produced a distinctive cuisine featuring seafood, tropical fruit and vanilla.
